Our fees
As with all private emergency departments there are out-of-pocket costs associated with your treatment. Medicare covers some costs but the fixed out-of-pocket fee is $450. With a reduced fee of $400 for Pensioners and Health Care Concession card holders. This fee needs to be paid on the day, including if you’re admitted to hospital.
Emergency Department fees are not covered by your private health insurance as per Private Health Insurance Act 2007. Private health insurance only covers patients once admitted into hospital.
Depending on your treatment, there may be other costs like radiology and pathology. These fees are billed independently by these providers and are separate to emergency department costs. This also applies to ambulance transfer fees, if required, unless you have an ambulance subscription. Appliances along with equipment hire i.e. crutches are billed at a nominal cost.
If you return to the Emergency Department within 7 days with the same injury or illness we waive the ED fee. This also applies if you present to our Emergency Department within 28 days of being admitted to an ACHA hospital, with a condition relating to your hospital admission.
What to expect
Within minutes of your arrival, a nurse will assess you to determine the severity of your illness or injury. Our emergency doctor will see you in order of how urgent your medical condition is. They’ll assess you and decide on the best treatment; you’ll be admitted into hospital or treated and sent home with a General Practitioner follow up. Our experienced team is here for you when you need them.
We provide adult emergency services only and are unable to accept major trauma or psychiatric conditions.
We generally have shorter wait times than other emergency departments. You can check our wait times online below.
